NEWS
I Just returned from a very successful premiere of my new choral work Lord, Grant Us Thy Peace in Poughkeepsie, New York, performed by the Christ Church choir and assorted musicians under the direction of Laura Russell. I hope to have the recording posted soon on my compositions page.
Sqwonk is gearing up for our first concert in a while, which will include premieres of new works by Ryan Brown, Ben Phelps, Ken Thomson, Aaron Novik, and Cornelius Boots. We'll be playing April 30th at SF Conservatory and June 17th at the Climate Theater in San Francisco
In other news, Zoyres has completed the mixing and mastering of our new CD - still a ways to go with cover/jacket design, naming, etc., but should be out soon.
MY APPROACH
My goal in all my musical pursuits is to make music
alive, intense, and vital. I don’t want it to be held back,
constrained, or tamed. This doesn’t mean I want
everything to be loud and screaming all the time;
just that I want it to be strong, direct,
and deeply felt,
without pretension.
I write music for all sorts of ensembles,
from orchestra to chorus to rock band.

As a performer, I am involved in all sorts of creative
and interesting projects. I am a member of the heavy
chamber music bass clarinet quartet Edmund Welles
and the klezmer / balkan / jazz / wild
improv band
Zoyres, as well as a co-founder, composer,
and performer in the bass clarinet duo Sqwonk .
I also freelance as a classical clarinetist
and conduct compositions by students
and other young composers.
So please browse around, listen to my music,
and e-mail me if you
have any questions
or
if you’re interested in
booking any of my
bands or ordering any of my music.
